The IDEA Youth Forum 2024 continued our 30 year tradition of showcasing the power of youth in driving educational and social initiatives. By providing a platform for young debaters to learn, teach, and engage in meaningful discussions, the forum helped develop future leaders equipped with critical thinking and communication skills.
The IDEA Youth Forum Prague 2024 just concluded. The even held from July 8th to 14th on several locations in Prague brought together 65 young people from across Europe. This event, organized and led entirely by youth, gave participants a chance to dive into workshops, debates, and discussions on important topics.
The forum featured a variety of workshops aimed at building essential skills and knowledge. Participants learned how to structure and present arguments using models like the Toulmin Argumentation Model. They also picked up public speaking techniques to convey their messages confidently, control their body language, and engage their audiences. Workshops covered topics such as creative ways of learning and the incredibly fun topic of legislative processes of the European Union, explaining how EU institutions govern and make decisions. Innovative persuasion approaches were explored, including strategies for outflanking opponents and tailoring speeches to different audiences.
Throughout the forum, participants debated various topics, putting their newly acquired skills to the test. These debates fostered critical thinking and persuasive communication, allowing participants to practice constructing and presenting compelling arguments.
A standout feature of the event was that it was entirely youth-led. Young people were in charge of organizing and running the forum, from choosing topics to facilitating workshops and leading debates. This approach empowered participants and ensured the event was relevant to their interests and needs. The forum provided a supportive space for participants to learn from each other and grow both personally and academically.
We were incredibly happy to host this event in Prague this year again and want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Czech Debate Association for hosting us, and connecting us to their wonderfull work in Prague Debate Spring!
