Slovenská debatná asociácia

SDA covers 60 debate clubs in schools, organizes year-round debate competitions and educational events for young people, educators and the public. In 2024, it had 960 members and over 13,000 young people participated in its activities.

The Slovak Debating Association runs 3 debate programs: primary school, secondary
school and university.

• Elementary school debate program
  Pupils of the second grade of elementary schools and lower grades of eight-year high schools can improve their critical thinking and argumentation. Primary school debate clubs meet at schools mostly under the leadership of teachers. As part of the elementary school debate program, a year-round promotion competition Junior Debate League is organized.
• High school debate program
  Debate clubs meet for regular training sessions where they improve their argumentative and cognitive skills, conduct practice debates and prepare for debate tournaments. As part of the high school debate program, a year-round promotion competition, the Slovak Debate League, is organized.
• University debate program
  Especially at the universities in Bratislava, Trnava, Košice, Brno and Prague, graduates of the SDA high school program are concentrated in university debate clubs.

In addition to school debate programs, the Slovak Debate Association is also involved in other important activities:

• Critical Thinking Olympiad - Progressive competition for high school students, focused on verifying and searching for information, recognizing manipulation in the media, interpreting data and statistics, and formulating arguments.
• Teacher's program - Providing support to schools in introducing debate clubs, methodical support to teachers, and organizing training for teachers.
• Summer Debate Academy - A one-week stay in nature with a focus on debate training in cooperation with the Czech Debate Association.
