PEACE Training in Brno
Between 13 and 18 September, Brno hosted the Mental Health Exchange in Youth Work training as part of the PEACE project. The event brought together debate trainers, facilitators and judges from across our project partners, and introduced them to a psychologist who helped them with mental health in youth work.
The training brought together trainers, facilitators and judges from Croatia, Lithuania and Czechia, continuing the cooperation built through the PEACE project, which focuses on mental health in youth work. Throughout the event, participants explored how mental health and wellbeing can be integrated into everyday youth work, especially with a focus on how to implement it in the debate environment.
The training covered a lot of topics:
- How to recognise when a young person may be going through a difficult period?
- How to respond when a debater shares a sensitive concern?
- How to motivate debaters and guide team dynamics?
- How to connect mental health, wellbeing and sustainability in youth work?
- Where the role of a youth worker ends and when additional support is needed?
- How to use supervision and reflection for professional development?
Participants worked through group work, discussions, practical scenarios and exercises on real debate materials. All of the sessions were supervised by trained psychologists together with debate coaches. This combination allowed them to develop specific outputs that they can bring back into their own debate clubs and organisations.
