3rd International Conference on Debate and Dialogue (ICDD)

3rd International Conference on Debate and Dialogue (ICDD)

The International Conference on Debate and Dialogue (ICDD) is the Qatar Debate Center's academic platform, dedicated to advancing knowledge at the intersection of debate, dialogue, and argumentation, and drawing on related fields including philosophy, education, linguistics, and Islamic sciences.

The conference is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical scholarly inquiry and the practical experience of debaters, coaches, and educators and welcomes contributions in both Arabic and English. It aims to draw on diverse fields, including philosophy, linguistics, education, and Islamic sciences, to explore how civilizations reason and resolve disagreement.

Core themes of ICDD3 are structured around three primary areas of inquiry:

  • Theoretical and Applied Argumentation: Examining Islamic scholarly traditions (such as ‘ilm al-munāzara), comparative studies with Western models, and the role of argumentation in political and digital media.
  • Debate and Education: Investigating debate as a pedagogical tool, focusing on curriculum design, teacher development, and empirical research regarding critical thinking outcomes.
  • Debate and Artificial Intelligence: Exploring argument mining, AI-powered training tools, and the ethical implications of AI-mediated persuasion.

Abstracts are accepted until the 1st of August. More information can be found on QatarDebate's website
