PROGRAMME SCHEDULE
Jun 20 Arrival day
All day: Arrival and check-in at Hotel Kompas and Hotel Ramada
Evening: Optional meet-and-greet — informal introductions, no structured program
Jun 21 Day 1 — Introduction and fundamentals
Morning: Opening session: participant goals, experience sharing, overview of debate fundamentals (claim, evidence, reasoning), argumentation across the curriculum: practical techniques for embedding debate in different subjects
Morning: Debate formats overview: formats commonly used in class and competitions
Afternoon: Judging Practice (Part 1): introduction to adjudication criteria, roles of the judge, short practice debates with feedback
Jun 22 Day 2 — Refutation, opposition and practical activities
Morning: Refutation and opposition strategies: methods for strengthening responses to opposing arguments
Morning: Interactive methods for debate clubs: short speeches, line debates, confidence-building formats
Afternoon: Judging Practice (Part 2)
Jun 23 Day 3 — Coaching challenges and assesment
Morning: Assessment techniques: formative vs. summative approaches, peer feedback, performance-based evaluation
Morning: Coaching challenges: building sustainable debate programs, time management, motivating students
Afternoon: Judging Practice (Part 3)
Jun 24 Day 4 — Controversial topics, media literacy and skill integration
Morning: Managing controversial topics: respectful dialogue, multiple perspectives, ethical considerations
Morning: Media and data literacy in debate education; methods for addressing AI in the classroom
Afternoon: Skill integration: participants apply new methods to prepare debate lessons or coaching plans
Jun 25 Day 6 — Advanced adjudication
Morning: Advanced judging: sophisticated argumentation, subtle clashes, strategic moves
Morning: Observer analysis: rotating roles where participants watch debates and offer live feedback
Afternoon: Peer coaching: small groups building guidelines for fair and constructive adjudication
Jun 26-27 Semifinals, finals and farewell
Morning: Semifinals and final debates — educators participate as judges alongside the student track
Midday: Award ceremony
After lunch: Check-out and farewells

Za in proti, zavod za kulturo dialoga / Pro et contra, Institute for culture of dialogue Za in proti is the Slovenian national debate organization and IDEA member, with over 16 years of experience organizing the World Schools Debate Academy. It has developed extensive Erasmus+ funded materials for debate coaches and classroom teachers, and is a recognized leader in debate education across Central and Eastern Europe.
