IDEA launches MeLiTa project to strengthen media literacy education in high schools

In a new project, funded by Erasmus+, teachers will be empowered to help students recognise and combat disinformation.

Disinformation through online platforms and politically-biased media outlets is becoming increasingly nuanced and widespread, challenging democracy and public health. Traditional efforts try to treat the symptoms when the disease has already spread, or fails to train the immune system of young people. A new generation of vaccinations is needed to make young people think critically on an effective level, so they can recognise and respond to fake news. To help teachers empower young students to become reinformed citizens, IDEA is proud to launch the MeLiTa project.

Working together with four partners from different European countries, IDEA will develop an innovative digital platform where teachers can be taught to use debate methodology to combat disinformation and fake news. This platform will be used by teachers and peer educators in the IDEA network to make young people responsible and informed citizens.

MeLiTa has been made possible by a grant awarded through Erasmus+. The project partners include ZiP (Slovenia), PDJ (Poland), EDS (Estonia), and Danes Je Nov Dan (Slovenia).
