Youth Engagement Through Green Debate

Youth Engagement Through Green Debate

The last stop of our Green Debate tour across Dutch schools was Utrecht, where the local youth debate club UDS hosted a series of debates at Utrecht University. The sessions brought together young people to debate environmental topics and strengthen their argumentation skills. This final event demonstrated the project’s positive impact positive impact on youth education.

At Utrecht University, in partnership with UDS, the local university-based youth debate club, three back-to-back sessions were held as part of the Erasmus+ EU co-funded project Empowering Youthwork for the Green Debate.

The events gathered 44 participants who engaged in discussions and debates centered on environmental topics. The debates allowed young people to practice argumentation, active listening, and teamwork, while grappling with complex questions about how societies can respond to the climate crisis.

The involvement of UDS added a strong community dimension, as youth workers and student leaders co-implemented activities and shared methods for integrating climate themes into future debate programmes. By embedding the project’s outputs into university-based debate culture, Utrecht’s activities contributed to building a lasting framework for youth-driven green dialogue.
