IDEA connects with Kazakh Debaters
The El Umiti Debate Cup 2025, held in Astana this past weekend, brought together some of Kazakhstan’s most active young debaters. The tournament, organised by Debat Eli, has become a central event for promoting debate and civic education across the country.
This year, Matija Pušnik, IDEA’s Head of Education, joined the event to help run the competitive program and connect with local debate educators. His visit offered a valuable opportunity for IDEA and Debat Eli, along with other Kazakh debate organisations, to exchange experiences and share knowledge about debate-based youth work.
Discussions focused on how debate can strengthen critical thinking and civic participation among young people, as well as on possible ways to cooperate in the future. The meetings highlighted the shared commitment to expanding debate education and linking Kazakh youth initiatives with international debate networks.
