From Participants to Leaders 2026
Registrations are now open for From Participants to Leaders 2026, an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange taking place this August in Blokzijl, the Netherlands. The programme is designed for young debaters who are preparing for their new role of debate coaches. Through workshops and collaborative sessions, participants will develop the skills they need to lead the next generation of debaters in their communities.
We are happy to announce that registrations are now open for From Participants to Leaders 2026, a youth exchange and training programme designed for young debaters preparing to become the next generation of debate coaches. This year’s event will take place in the Dutch town of Blokzijl and will bring together participants from across the IDEA network for a week of learning, practice and leadership development.
The programme is aimed primarily at first-year university students and fourth-year high school students who are planning to begin coaching debate in the upcoming school year. Through workshops, practical exercises and collaborative sessions, participants will develop the pedagogical skills and confidence necessary to teach and mentor younger students.

What to Expect
From Participants to Leaders is focused not only on debate methodology, but also on the wider responsibilities of becoming an educator and youth leader. Participants will explore topics such as:

Creating supportive and inclusive learning environments

Practical tools for sharing debate knowledge with younger students
The programme is highly interactive and participant-centred. Attendees will actively contribute to the training by leading exercises and sessions with the support and guidance of experienced trainers.
Who Can Participate
IDEA member organisations are welcome to register delegations of 5–10 participants. The expected participant profile includes first-year university students and final-year high school students preparing to coach debate during the next academic year.
The age guideline is flexible. If your organisation would like to send participants who are slightly younger or older but would strongly benefit from the programme, please contact Nusa at nusa@idebate.net with a short explanation.
Travel and Accommodation
Accommodation and meals will be fully provided throughout the event. Participants will stay in fully accessible multi-bed rooms.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with IDEA’s travel policy.
