Closing the Year with Empowering Youthwork for the Green Debate Meeting in Zagreb
December wasn’t just about closing the year—it was also the time for an inspiring meeting within the Empowering Youth Work for the Green Debate project. Hosted in Zagreb by the Croatian Debate Society, the event brought fresh insights and valuable feedback, reaffirming that we’re moving in the right direction with our efforts to develop tools for debate-based climate education.
In December, the Croatian Debate Society (Hrvatsko Debatno Društvo, HDD) hosted a training event under the Empowering Youth Work for the Green Debate project. From December 12th to 16th, youth workers from Croatia, Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands gathered to expand the knowledge of how to use online tools for debate-based climate education.
This Erasmus+ initiative aims to provide youth workers with cutting-edge resources to engage young people in critical discussions about sustainability and climate action. The event in Zagreb focused on integrating online platforms and e-learning courses into youth work practices, making sure they are relevant and appropriate for the approach of debate-based learning.
Interactive Feedback Sessions
Participants joined in interactive workshops designed to refine and optimize the project’s digital tools. They were divided into two groups, and while the first concentrated on enhancing an e-platform to streamline resources and facilitate debate preparation, the other group actively contributed to the development of e-learning courses aimed at empowering their peers to tackle complex climate-related issues.
Through collaborative feedback sessions, participants shared their insights on usability, accessibility, and the educational value of these tools. This approach enabled the project team to adapt the digital resources to better suit the needs of youth workers and young people alike.
Fostering Innovation in Debate-Based Youth Work
The event showed us how to make sure that online tools are actually used in youth work. By learning how to integrate these digital resources effectively into their day-to-day work, participants are now better equipped to inspire critical thinking and climate awareness among the next generation.
Beyond the technical training, the event provided a platform for meaningful cross-cultural exchange. Youth workers, educators, and organizational leaders from partner countries shared best practices and discussed strategies to make debate-based youth work more impactful.
Shaping the Future of Climate Education
The Zagreb event marked an important milestone in the Empowering Youth Work for the Green Debate project. As the initiative moves forward, the insights gathered from this event will inform the next phases of digital tool development and dissemination, ensuring their lasting impact on climate-focused education. We are excited to share the online results of the project with the wider debate community soon!
