Bridging Schools and Universities in the Green Debate
In the middle of debated ending summer in Netherland, the Green Debate initiative project made its way to Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Aimed to secondary schoolers from our partner DSDC organisation. The event showed again how debate connects students across different age groups and increase critical thinking and environmental challenges.
In Rotterdam, the Green Debate initiative reached Erasmus University, where a unique event was co-organized with EDS, the local university debate club, and DSDC, a secondary school–oriented debate club. This collaboration made the Rotterdam event particularly distinctive within the Erasmus+ EU co-funded project Empowering Youthwork for the Green Debate.
The debate activity brought together 11 participants, creating an intergenerational exchange between high school and university debaters. This mix of perspectives enriched the discussions and highlighted the potential for debate to act as a bridge between educational levels.
Rotterdam’s session also emphasized capacity-building for youth workers, who had been trained beforehand to use the project’s resources. By involving both secondary and university-level clubs, the event showcased how the project’s results can be applied flexibly across age groups, helping to prepare the next generation of citizens to engage with climate issues critically and collaboratively.
