2nd Green Debate Tournament

2nd Green Debate Tournament

At the end of May, we organised the second Green Debate Tournament. This was a one-day online debate competition with an environmental focus, held as one of the final events of the project "Empowering Youth Work for the Green Debate." Debaters once again had the opportunity to use case studies created during the project and apply them directly in their debates.

This time, we hosted around 80 young people and 16 educators for the second online Green Debate Tournament. Most participants were high school students, along with their teachers or coaches as adjudicators. All rounds were impromptu, meaning the students had 30 minutes to prepare their arguments. The motions addressed during the day included:

  • Should companies be held legally liable for the environmental impact of their consumers?

  • Should we regret the use of extremist tactics by climate activists?

Debaters showed how knowledge gained through case studies can be applied in debates. The event proved that debating is not only about constructing arguments, but also about learning to understand new topics and clearly explain them within a limited time.

Even though we faced a few technical difficulties, was event succesful. The debaters remained patient and showed great understanding.

We look forward to organising more online events in the future and welcoming debaters from all over the world once again!
