We are pleased to announce a networking and professional development activity running parallel to this year’s European Schools Debating Championship (EuroSDC). This initiative is designed to integrate practical debating experiences with professional youth work, aiming to enhance the methodologies and effectiveness of participants engaged in debate-based youth projects.
Throughout the championship, participants will engage directly with the debates, allowing them to analyze and provide feedback in real time. This approach will enhance the learning experience, blending practical engagement with educational outcomes. The seminar being held parallel to the EuroSDC is strategically designed to enhance and promote youth work by leveraging the convergence of debate educators and youth workers from across Europe. We hope this will create and environment for sharing best practices and innovative methodologies in youth debate education. The benefits of running this seminar alongside EuroSDC include immediate application of learned skills in a real environment with youth, enhanced networking opportunities, and the creation of a collaborative space where practitioners can explore new ideas and approaches. We hope these enhancements will ripple through their local communities, strengthening the overall impact of youth work on a broader scale.
The program includes workshops focused on improving the quality of feedback and mentorship within debate settings, and the seminar will also provide opportunites for self reflection and peer learning within the settings of a debate event. These sessions will allow participants to develop the ability to deliver insightful and constructive feedback, an essential skill for educational and developmental success. Additional workshops will address project management and strategic planning for debate education, providing participants with necessary skills to manage and evaluate debate programs effectively, and to organise debate based youth work in their communiites.
Structured networking opportunities will enable participants to connect with peers and experts from various regions, building a network that supports continuous learning and collaboration. The event will also explore the use of debate as a pedagogical tool to foster active citizenship and critical thinking among young people.
By incorporating direct debate participation with focused professional development, this event is structured to significantly enhance the caliber and influence of debate-based youth work across Europe. Participants will gain advanced skills and knowledge, which they are expected to disseminate within their local communities. This transfer of knowledge will occur through structured post-event activities, where participants will utilize their new insights to train others, integrate new techniques into local debate programs, and foster a broader understanding of effective debate practices. We hope that the connections made during the event will facilitate ongoing collaboration and support, creating a sustained impact that reaches beyond the individual to influence community-wide educational strategies. This systematic sharing of resources and expertise will empower local youth workers, enhance the debate education landscape, and promote a more cohesive and informed network of debate educators across Europe.
