Idebate Rwanda
iDebate Rwanda is a youth-focused nonprofit organization that uses debate, public speaking, and critical thinking programs to empower young people in Rwanda and across Africa.
Founded in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the organization was created to help build a generation capable of engaging in dialogue, resolving conflict peacefully, and participating actively in civic life.
The organization’s main goal is to develop confident, thoughtful, and socially responsible young leaders through communication and leadership education. iDebate Rwanda aims to strengthen critical thinking, English communication, civic engagement, and problem-solving skills among students and young professionals while promoting reconciliation, inclusion, and constructive dialogue.
Its core activities include running the National Debate League in schools across Rwanda, organizing debate and public speaking competitions, training teachers and debate coaches, delivering communication and leadership workshops, and supporting youth entrepreneurship and financial literacy initiatives. Currently, iDebate Rwanda works with more than 5,000 students in over 160 schools across the country and has an ambitious plan to expand its programs to 425 schools within the next five years, increasing access to debate and leadership education for thousands more young people.
