Writing Our World

Writing Our World is a youth founded and youth led organization shaping a generation of thinkers, speakers, and leaders.

Writing Our World is a youth founded and youth led organization shaping a generation of thinkers, speakers, and leaders. Through writing, debate, and spoken word, supported by mentorship and a strong network of guidance programs, we equip young people with the critical thinking skills they need to make better decisions, act as change agents in their communities, and grow resilient in the face of real world challenges.

We believe that young voices hold the power to reshape society. Our role is to give those voices a platform, a purpose, and the tools to be heard.

Why Debate?

Debate is one of the three pillars through which we build critical thinking and equip young people to design solutions for the challenges around them. Our approach aligns with the New Secondary Schools Curriculum, which prioritizes critical thinking, communication, cooperation, and self-directed learning.

At Writing Our World, debate is more than competition. It is a holistic experience that:

  • Offers a platform for young people to discuss and propose solutions to pressing societal issues
  • Lets students share in the joy and thrill of being debaters
  • Expands their social capital through connections with peers across Uganda and East Africa
  • Develops lasting speech and debate skills that shape their academic and professional futures

Since 2013, we have organized debate championships across Uganda and East Africa. With more than ten years of experience and a dedicated team, Writing Our World has the expertise and human resource to deliver impactful debate programs year after year.
