Joint Debate Society

The Joint Debate Society (JDS) is a premier, vibrant youth organization based in South Sudan, dedicated to fostering intellectual dialogue, critical thinking, and leadership across the East Africa

Goals and Mission

·         Empowerment: To equip youth with the tools of logic, persuasion, and ethical communication.

·         Regional Integration: To strengthen ties within the East African community through competitive debate and cultural exchange.

·         Leadership Development: To cultivate a new generation of ethical leaders through structured training and public speaking initiatives.

Main Activities.

JDS maintains an extensive calendar of educational and competitive events:

·         Schools debate championships: JDS organises junior debate championship for the primary in south sudan almost all the state and Secondary schools debate championship in all the regionals in South Sudan. These tournament are annually.

·         National Championships: Organizing Junior and Secondary School Debate Championships annually at both the State and National levels.

·         Capacity Building: Conducting nationwide training for debate judges and specialized student training on World Schools Debate Championship (WSDC) and World Schools Fellowship (WSDF) formats.

·         Junub Debate Academy (JDA): Functioning as the organization's central training hub, JDA focuses on competitive excellence.

·         Oration Lead Hub (OLH): A specialized initiative centered on youth development, ethical leadership, and the art of public speaking.

·         International Representation: Acting as the organizing body presenting South Sudan at the EADC and the WSDC.

Historical Highlights & Achievements

JDS has rapidly established itself as a regional powerhouse. A significant milestone in its history occurred in 2025, when its training arm, the Junub Debate Academy (JDA), emerged as the unbeaten winner of the East African Debate Championship (EADC). Furthermore, JDS continues to break barriers by representing South Sudan on the global stage, most recently at the WSDC in Kenya, proving its mettle as an elite institution for intellectual discourse
