SYMUF - Press House (Media Synergy for the Union of Forces)
Founded on June 7, 2011, in Uvira, South Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, SYMUF – Press House is a Congolese non-governmental organization active at the regional level in Africa. It engages in international cooperation initiatives promoting press freedom, media literacy, and democratic dialogue.
For more than fifteen years, SYMUF has promoted peace, social cohesion, human rights, and good governance through professional, conflict-sensitive media and civic initiatives that encourage democratic participation.
Key programs include:
- Journalist training on professional ethics, press freedom, and conflict-sensitive reporting.
- Public authority training on political communication focused on accountability, transparency, and citizen engagement.
- Media literacy programs to strengthen youth critical thinking and foster civic participation.
- The Karl Popper debate education program, currently implemented in DRC, Burundi, Uganda, and Malawi, developing argumentation skills, critical thinking, and a culture of dialogue.
SYMUF also maintains a representation in Europe to facilitate international cooperation and experience sharing.
